Computer Use Policies and Rules
PUBLIC ACCESS COMPUTER USE
RULES
- The Southwest Georgia Regional Library is pleased to offer public access
computers to its patrons. In order to enjoy benefits from this equipment for
years to come, please bear in mind the following rules.
- Computers are available to all patrons who have valid
library cards, positive proof of identification may be required.
- In order to use a computer, a patron must sign a
computer use agreement which will be kept on file. Patrons under the age of 18
must have a parent or guardian sign a permission form and have it on file
before the computers can be used.
- These computers are provided as is for public use. If
you have a program of your own that you need to be able to access, check with
the library staff before running it or loading it. If it is discovered that
the computers have been changed in any way by other than library personnel,
that person is in danger of having their computer privileges revoked. We
cannot afford to have these computers tampered with, it takes staff time and
money to fix problems and we are short on both. If there is a specific program
that you would like to use that we do not have, tell the circulation desk
staff and if we think that many patrons would benefit from having that program
to use, we will see if we can find the money to purchase that program. We
cannot just load a copy that you have and leave it on the machine. If you want
to donate a program that you have purchased our collection development
committee will be happy to review it.
- Sign in at the reference desk for a designated computer.
You must leave an ID that will be returned when you sign out. When you log-in
at the front desk to use a computer, you are logging in to that computer, not
another computer and certainly not two computers at the same time. Patrons
walking in may want to use a computer, but change their mind because they
think that computers are all in use. Please be considerate and remember that
these computers are here for all to use.
- If you are working on something that you need to save a
copy of, it needs to be saved to a floppy disk. If it is saved to the hard
drive, it is in danger of being deleted during periodic clean up of the
computer files. If you need to save something, but have not brought a disk
with you, blank formatted disks can be purchased at the circulation desk for $1.00 each
- Computer use is limited to 1 hour when someone is
waiting. The only people that should be in the computer room are the people
working on the computers.
- Computer assistance is limited to operational help.
Please refer to the software manual for additional assistance.
- The cost of printing on a laser printer ranges from $.25 to $1.00.
- If you need to use a CD Rom, check it out at the
reference/circulation desk. At the present time, CD Roms are for in library
use only.
- Sign out at the reference/circulation desk when you are
finished with the computer and retrieve your ID.

SOUTHWEST GEORGIA REGIONAL
LIBRARY BOARD
ELECTRONIC NETWORK POLICY
The Southwest Georgia Regional Library Board believes staff and students
should have open access to local. national. and international sources of
information. The Board, by providing access to electronic services via the
Internet, recognizes the potential of such services to support, education,
information and business, and life-long learning. The goal of providing this
access is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing,
innovation. and communication.
While the Internet offers patrons, students, and teachers access to a variety
of information, the Board recognizes misuse and abuse are possible. The Board
will make every effort to protect students and teachers from these misuses and
abuses, but it is the responsibility of each user to continuously guard against
inappropriate and illegal interaction with the electronic services. The
Southwest Georgia Regional Library is taking all reasonable steps to ensure the
Internet is used only for purposes consistent with education and information
sharing.
The Library Director and staff will establish rules for the use of the
electronic system.
Failure to abide by Board policy and administrative regulations governing use
of the library’s system may result in the suspension and/or revocation of system
access. Additionally, student violations may result in discipline up to and
including expulsion. Staff violations may also result in discipline up to and
including dismissal. Fees, fines or other charges may also be imposed.
The Southwest Georgia Regional Library makes no guarantee of any kind, for
the Internet service provided to the student. The district will not be
responsible for any damages claimed or suffered by any child or parent relating
to the use of the Internet. This includes the user's exposure to materials a
parent otherwise would have a right of notice and/or consent to pursuant to
state or federal law. Use of any information obtained via the Internet is at the
student's and parents' own risk.
The Southwest Georgia Regional Library believes that the benefits to
educators, students, and the citizens from access to the Internet, in the form
of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, far exceed any
disadvantages. Ultimately, parent(s) and guardians(s) of minors are responsible
for setting and conveying the standards that their child or ward should follow.
To that end, the Southwest Georgia Regional Library Board supports and respects
each family's right to decide whether or not to apply for Internet access.
