COLLECTION
BOOKS, VIDEOS, COMPACT DISCS
The Southwest Georgia Regional Library System has a large collection of books and other materials. Over 100,000 books and materials are available to library patrons. These include adult fiction and non-fiction, books for children and young adults, large print books, paperbacks, magazines, newspapers, and
records. Thanks to funding from the annual Regions Bank Bookworm Golf Tournament, the library has over 2000 video cassettes in fiction and non-fiction as well as over 1000 titles on audio-cassette or compact disc. Loan periods for these materials are:
Books, audio cassettes, records, & compact discs - 2 weeks, renewable by phone.
Magazines - 2 weeks
Video cassettes - 2 days
REFERENCE
Library staff is available to help you find answers to all kinds of questions, from how to contact the president of a national company to how to give your car a tune-up. The reference staff can check to see if a book you want is in, and reserve it for you if it is checked out, or borrow it from another library on interlibrary loan. Just call the library and ask for reference service or come by the reference desk. For our hearing impaired patrons, a TDD machine is located at the library to take your calls. Library staff also has access to technology resources such as the Internet.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
In addition to the Genealogy information available, the Decatur Library houses the Jack Wingate Anglers' and Hunters' Collection. This collection contains books and videos on all aspects of fishing and hunting.
The Natural Resource Discovery Center is funded by grants from the International Paper Company and consists of several hundred books about science and the environment. It is located in the children's area of the library.
Grants from Amoco Fabrics were used to fund the Amoco Career Center which contains books and videos on career development. This collection is for all age groups and is located at the end of the adult fiction shelves.
Other special collections include the Kirbo Children's Collection, Regions Bank Audio-Video Collection, First Port City Bank Business Collection, Joyce Leverett Museum and Garden Collection, and Rozier Georgia Author Collection.
LITERACY
Literacy computers and materials are available for public use. The library has literacy materials in various formats from videos and audio-cassettes, books with cassettes, Hooked on Phonics, and books of interest for the reluctant reader.
